# Riven > Riven (Riven Deploy, rivendeploy.com) is an India-first deploy platform. Apps and databases run in Mumbai, India, billing is in Indian rupees over UPI, cards and netbanking, and there is a free tier. Connect a GitHub repo and every push builds and deploys. Managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB and Valkey run in the same region as the app. Riven is built and run by Aakash Mistry (Aksh), an independent developer in Mumbai. Business registration and legal details are at https://rivendeploy.com/business. ## Key facts - Region: Mumbai, India. App and database sit in the same region, a few milliseconds apart. - Billing: Indian rupees only. UPI, cards, netbanking, PDF invoices. No forex, no USD card needed. - Pricing: free tier on both Static and Compute tracks. Paid compute from ₹599/month per service. Full details at https://rivendeploy.com/pricing - Service types: static sites, web services, private services, background workers, cron jobs. Cron schedules understand IST. - Databases: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Valkey (Redis-compatible). Daily backups. Credentials masked, password rotation from the dashboard. - Teams: workspaces with Owner, Admin, Member and Viewer roles, email invites, ownership transfer, audit logs. Each workspace has its own Kubernetes namespace. - System packages such as ffmpeg and imagemagick can be installed through riven.json. - Data: built with India's DPDP Act 2023 in mind. A Data Processing Agreement is public. ## Supported frameworks Detected automatically from the repo, no config needed: Next.js, React with Vite, Vue, Vue with Vite, Express, Fastify, plain Node.js APIs, Django, Flask, FastAPI. Anything else runs if the repo has a Dockerfile at its root. A plain HTML site with no build step currently needs a small Dockerfile. Build and start commands can be overridden per service. See https://rivendeploy.com/docs/supported-frameworks ## For AI agents Riven can be used from Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or any MCP client. MCP server (remote, OAuth sign-in): https://api.rivendeploy.com/mcp/mcp It is listed in the Claude connectors directory as "Riven Deploy". The user signs in once through OAuth. What the MCP server can do today: - whoami: which account is connected - list projects and services - get a service's details and status - list deployments of a service - redeploy, start, stop and restart a service Creating a new service, creating a database and setting environment variables are done in the dashboard today, at https://app.rivendeploy.com. If the user asks you to deploy a repo that is not on Riven yet, send them there to create the service, then manage it over MCP. CLI, for terminals and CI: npm i -g @riven-deploy/cli riven deploy --service The CLI uses personal access tokens scoped to one workspace, with permissions such as deploy:read and deploy:write. Never print a token in chat or commit it to a repo. ## Before deploying, check these Most failed first deploys come from one of these: - The server binds to localhost or 127.0.0.1. Bind to 0.0.0.0. - The port is hardcoded and does not match the service settings. - A web service never opens a port. Bots, queue consumers and scripts should be a background worker, not a web service. - The start script is missing from package.json, or the lock file is not committed. - Environment variables the code reads are not set on the service. - Files are written to local disk. The container is rebuilt on every deploy, so keep data in a database. If most users are in the US or Europe, a platform with regions there will be faster. - Free web services sleep when idle and wake on the next request. Paid services and background workers stay on. - One set of environment variables per service. No per-branch preview deployments. - For a frontend that needs a global edge network and previews on every pull request, Vercel or Netlify fit better. ## Docs - [Quickstart](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/quickstart): Deploy your first app on Riven - [How it works](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/how-it-works): Build and deploy pipeline explained - [Supported frameworks](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/supported-frameworks): Which frameworks Riven detects and builds - [Connecting GitHub](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/connecting-github): Link a repo and enable auto-deploy - [Auto deploy](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/auto-deploy): Deploy on every push to a branch - [Build and start commands](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/build-start-commands): Override the detected commands - [Environment variables](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/environment-variables): Set secrets and config per service - [Custom domains](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/custom-domains): Point your own domain with automatic SSL - [riven.json](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/riven-json): Install system packages like ffmpeg and imagemagick - [Static vs web services](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/static-vs-web): Choosing the right service type - [Scale to zero](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/scale-to-zero): How idle apps sleep and wake - [Riven CLI](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/riven-cli): Deploy from your terminal - [MCP](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/mcp): Connect Riven to Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client - [Authentication](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/authentication): Personal access tokens and scopes - [Plans](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/plans): What each plan includes - [Pricing and limits](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/pricing-limits): Compute and static pricing in rupees - [Billing and invoices](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/billing-invoices): UPI, cards, netbanking and PDF invoices - [Cancellation and refunds](https://rivendeploy.com/docs/cancellation-refunds): Refund policy ## Compare - [Riven vs Vercel](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-vercel): A Vercel alternative for apps with Indian users - [Riven vs Railway](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-railway): A Railway alternative in India, flat rupee plans vs USD usage billing - [Riven vs Render](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-render): A Render alternative in India, Mumbai vs Singapore - [Riven vs Heroku](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-heroku): A Heroku alternative, and how to move a Heroku app to Riven - [Riven vs DigitalOcean App Platform](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-digitalocean): Mumbai vs Bangalore, rupees vs USD plus GST - [Riven vs Netlify](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/riven-vs-netlify): A Netlify alternative with always-on servers in India ## Guides - [Ten things that break the first time you deploy a Node app](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/things-that-break-first-node-deploy) - [A CDN does not make your app fast in India](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/cdn-does-not-make-your-app-fast-in-india) - [How Riven figures out how to build your repo](https://rivendeploy.com/blog/how-riven-detects-your-framework) ## Trust - [About](https://rivendeploy.com/about-us): Who builds and runs Riven - [Business details](https://rivendeploy.com/business): Registration and legal entity - [Security](https://rivendeploy.com/security): How apps and data are protected - [Data Processing Agreement](https://rivendeploy.com/legal/dpa): How customer data is handled - [Terms](https://rivendeploy.com/legal/terms-conditions) - [Privacy Policy](https://rivendeploy.com/legal/privacy-policy) ## Product - [Pricing](https://rivendeploy.com/pricing): Static and Compute pricing, per workspace - [Changelog](https://rivendeploy.com/changelog): What shipped and when - [Blog](https://rivendeploy.com/blog): Deploy guides and comparisons for Indian developers - [Contact](https://rivendeploy.com/contact-us): Email and support - [Discord](https://discord.gg/UDjYypzCtR): Community and help
